The Velocity Pro from Wellness Metal is an agility ladder built for footwork drills that actually get repeated. The rungs are heavy-duty PP plastic that will not snap under hard use, and the straps lie flat on any firm surface, from a gym floor to a driveway to a grass pitch. Two ladders clip together with the included nylon belt connector when a drill needs a longer run.

Speed ladders earn their place because they train the small things: acceleration, foot placement, rhythm and body control. Athletes use them for soccer, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, tennis, badminton and rugby, and the same drills build leg strength and balance for general fitness. Increasing your step frequency over a ladder carries over directly to how quickly you can change direction in a game.

The whole thing rolls up small and wipes clean, so it lives in a kit bag rather than a corner of the garage. Rungs are easy to reset if a drill knocks them out of line. The ladder is supplied in a 19.7-foot, twelve-rung length. Warm up before high-speed work, start with slow, deliberate patterns before adding pace, and use it on a flat, dry surface with plenty of clear space around you.
